Interview: Anna Kendrick on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

12 Aug 2010

Interview Magazine recently interviewed Anna Kendrick and talked primarily about the upcoming movie "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" and a little bit about filming the Twilight Saga:

BANKOFF: What was the shooting process for Scott Pilgrim like? Can you tell me a little bit about the process of filming, like working with Michael [Cera] or any stories from the set?

KENDRICK: It was definitely really kind of odd and technical, because of the way that it looks. The process was definitely unlike anything I've ever done before. Like there's a scene where I'm on the phone with Michael Cera, and we had to do a split screen, so I had a little earpiece in my ear. I was listening to the footage that he'd already shot, and I just had to like fit my lines into the space in between his lines.

BANKOFF: Twilight: Eclipse came out earlier this summer. Are those releases extra stressful for you, because they're so high-profile?

KENDRICK: Now I know what I'm doing, so it's easier. With any other movie, you're entering new territory, so it's quite different to be involved in something where it's the same characters, and the same people. You know what to expect out of the premieres and the press and stuff. So it's actually kind of nice, because you don't get very much routine in this job, and it's actually sort of interesting. It's like an annual party or something.

Again, I don't like posting stuff involving Jay Leno (Conan all the way!), but I figured I must fulfill my website duties and post the interview that aired last night with Anna Kendrick. Currently she's promoting her upcoming movie, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World":

Anna Kendrick Wins Best Breakout Star At The MTV Movie Awards 2010

07 Jun 2010

How adorable was Anna Kendrick tonight when she won the trophy for Best Breakout Star at the MTV Movie Awards? Beating out the likes of Chris Pine, Zach Galifianakis and more, Anna, who was wearing a Zac Posen frock, was visibly surprised when her name was called. So much so, she even kept her speech short and sweet (just like she is!). "I am not cool enough to win an MTV Movie Award," she said when she got on stage, "so I am not going to mess it up by talking any more than I should."

Turns out, the "Up in the Air" actress might of been a little nervous as she was a golden popcorn virgin. "This is my first MTV Movie Awards," she told MTV News' Josh Horowitz on the red carpet before the show. "I'm really excited." She was so excited, in fact, that she didn't really think to prepare beforehand. "It didn't occur to me until I pulled up that that is kind of a loud, crazy event!" Me thinks she's spent way too much time away from the world of passionate "Twilight" fans!

Anna Kendrick Is 'Undecided' About Filming 'Breaking Dawn' In 3-D

08 Mar 2010

Kendrick is the latest 'Twilight' castmember to express concerns about filming the last installment in the saga in three dimensions.

Anna Kendrick isn't sure she'd like to see the next installment of the "Twilight Saga" in 3-D. Not only does she have reservations about tackling "Breaking Dawn" in three dimensions, but she isn't really sure she's down with 3-D at all, for that matter.

"I'm still undecided about 3-D, personally," the Oscar nominee told MTV News on the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday (March 7). "But obviously they don't consult me personally on whether or not 'Breaking Dawn' is going to be in 3-D."

While she joked that it's in her contract that she be involved in those kinds of decisions, Kendrick, who also shared that she thought the "Eclipse" trailer is going to be "beautiful," is the latest castmember to be anti 3-D for "Breaking Dawn."

Kellan Lutz isn't a big fan of 3-D movies, either. "3-D kind of hurts my eyes anyways. 'Avatar' was amazing in 3-D and in IMAX, but I don't think I wanna see a little baby half-vampire in 3-D," he said, echoing a similar sentiment made by Kristen Stewart. "There's just some scenes I just wouldn't want to see in 3-D."

Robert Pattinson admitted he felt the same way about the possibility. "The 3-D thing confuses me," Pattinson said. "I haven't seen 'Avatar' or any of these 3-D movie things yet. The idea of it ... I remember 3-D movies from when I was a kid, and I can just picture it giving me a headache."

Anna Kendrick Talks About Her And Jessica's Future After 'Eclipse'

08 Feb 2010

It's no new news that Anna Kendrick had mostly slipped under the radar in Hollywood for nearly half her adult life. Before she stole all her scenes in both "Twilight" and "New Moon" and garnered an Oscar nomination for her role in "Up in the Air," Anna was the third youngest Tony nominee ever and made a name for her quirky humor in "Rocket Science."

But it's what's going on after her success that is what is interesting. Jason Reitman wrote the role of Natalie specifically for Anna in "Up in the Air" and, though she still auditioned for the role, it really was hers to start with. She admitted in a new interview with Reuters that she's been too caught up in "Up in the Air" and awards season to focus on work, but she is still deservedly receiving some A-list job opportunities.

Anna Kendrick: First 'Twilight' Star With An Oscar Nomination

02 Feb 2010

With Kendrick going for Oscar gold, we look back on her meteoric rise — and our predictions that she'd be the first out of the 'Twilight' cast to be nominated.

On Tuesday morning (February 2), Twilighters all over the world woke up to a new reality: One of their own is an Oscar-nominated thespian. In Stephenie Meyer's world, something tells us that Jessica Stanley wouldn't be able to stop talking about such an exciting development; in real life, however, Anna Kendrick is a bit more modest.

"I am thrilled beyond words to be nominated with these talented and inspiring women," the ebullient 24-year-old actress said in a statement after learning she had been nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in the George Clooney drama many consider to be among the best of the year. "Being involved in a film as special as 'Up in the Air' was a dream come true. I am overwhelmed and honored by this nomination and am so grateful to be able to share this experience with George, Vera [Farmiga] and [director] Jason [Reitman]."

Years ago, we wrote extensively about how the "Twilight" cast seemed like one of those rare families of stars who could head off in different directions and impact Hollywood for decades to come, "Dazed and Confused"-style. But even we couldn't predict that it would happen so quickly — or that their first Oscar nomination would go to ... a human with only a handful of lines in each film?

Apparently, you guys couldn't predict it either. In November, we teamed with Fandango to poll "Twilight" fans and one of the questions asked was which saga star would be the first to win an Oscar. The results? Robert Pattinson won with nearly half the vote, while Anna got ... 1 percent. Awkward!

Moments after she did earn the nod for the first possible golden guy for Twilight Nation, Anna responded by doing something very new-Hollywood: She posted to her Twitter account. "I'd love to say that 140 characters couldn't cover how I'm feeling right now," she wrote. "But I'm honestly speechless."
